First Attempt to Brisk Walk

First attempt to brisk walk, second attempt to write this entry. I accidentally logged on into another account so when I saved my previous entry it *poofed* into thin air. amazing.

Okay, here goes my entry:

I am now weighing 75 kilos or 165 pounds. Bad, so bad for a 31 year old mom who moves very little and eats so much. I've lived a sedentary lifestyle for years and the whole family just love to eat. So coming from a family with a looooong hypertension history and despite that, we still love pork --- I am so doomed.

Our food last Sunday *sigh*

Ironically, the two cooks at home who just loves to cook delicious food every now and then inspired me to jog. So the hubby bought me rubber shoes a few weeks ago and since then it has sat at the corner in the room. I didn't have the courage to pull it out of the box and try jogging.

After a hundred reasons or so, I finally got the courage to use it yesterday. I didn't run --- I just walked for 4.4 kilometers from our place to my daughter's school. The first question I got was "how long did it take you?" oh just 38 minutes, and I walked, I didn't run.

Not bad considering that I was a first timer with a bad-ass toe injury (hello ingrown nails!).

So fun runs next?

Upcycling and Ukay

Recession or not, we moms should find a way to be fashionable without breaking the household budget, this is why upcycling or buying fashionable clothes from thrift shops are becoming more and more popular these days.

In the United States, people even swap clothes to keep up with the effects of recession and I think that's already a common practice here in the Philippines, right? Siblings or friends swap clothes para makatipid. It's one good way to save.

As a mom, I cringe at the thought of buying P500 worth of clothing. It's just too expensive for me. Let's face it, P500 can already buy A LOT of things or food for the whole family. So how does a fashionable mom face all these?

By upcycling all clothes or purchase clothes from thrift shops or Ukay Ukay.

Upcycling is the process of converting waste materials or useless products into new materials or products of better quality or a higher environmental value. (source - Wikipedia)

Think you got nothing to upcycle? Just imagine the heaps of clothes that you no longer want to wear. Add a little creativity and some sewing skills and you're on your way to upcycling!

Thrift shops AKA ukay ukay - there are so many shops selling pre-loved clothes! The trick here is to find a cheap piece of clothing in pristine condition! There are a lot, all you need is patience and an eye for good finds.

Things to remember in buying from ukay ukay or thrift shops:

  • Find a shop selling "pre-selected" clothes - theirs are priced higher but you will notice how clean the clothes are and most of them are signature or branded clothes.
  • Tumawad ka.
  • Check for stains, holes, etc.
  • THOROUGHLY wash the item before using.
So there, remember that we need not look losyang just because we are saving for something or our budget is too tight. There are sooo many ways to look fab, all you need is a little imagination and lots of guts to be fab!
